The honest version of this story

The company behind Manifold has been building 3D spatial capture technology since 2013. Manifold — the field documentation product you’re using today — grew out of that decade of work. Not as a venture-backed rocket ship. As a founder-built platform that stayed useful and kept running, even during the seasons when we didn’t have the time or resources — or even the ability to pay ourselves — to push it forward. The product worked. Users kept using it. We kept the lights on.

Along the way, billion-dollar companies in this industry noticed us. We've been threatened. We've been dismissed. We've been told the market wasn't ours to compete in. We're still here.

The construction tech industry has been built, mostly, by people who have never been on a job site. They build tools for the enterprise buyer — the GC managing $100M projects with a dedicated IT department. They build for investor demos, not field crews. And when they need more revenue, they raise prices on the customers who can least afford it.

We built Manifold for the contractor who carries their own phone, runs their own crew, and needs to document work properly without a complicated software budget. We know what the bottom line means to the people we’re building for. Everyone told us to jack up our prices. We didn’t. That’s still who we build for. It’s always been who we build for.

We answer our own tickets

When you message us in the app, you’re talking to the people who built it. Not a tier-1 support agent reading from a script. The same people who wrote the code, designed the features, and argued about the right way to handle offline sync at 11pm on a Tuesday.

This means response times aren’t always instant. But it means that when something is broken, the person you’re talking to can actually fix it. And when you have a feature idea, the person reading it has the authority to build it.

We've been doing it this way for 11 years. We're not planning to change it.

Where we are now

After 11 years of building spatial technology and staying solvent, we think we’ve finally found the moment. The tools we built — 3D scanning from an iPhone, photo-linked punch lists, remote measurements, GPS documentation — have reached the point where they’re genuinely better than what the funded incumbents offer at a fraction of the cost. Thousands of field teams across North America have used Manifold on real job sites. The platform has held up.

Small contractors deserve software built for them. Not watered-down enterprise tools with a mobile app bolted on. Not platforms that lock you into seat minimums and charge you overages every time your job volume goes up. Software that works offline, exports a clean PDF, shares with a link, and is supported by people who genuinely care whether your job goes well.

That’s what we built. That’s what Manifold is.
